Due to multiple factors, including the financial impact of COVID-19 on their business, the company responsible for administration of the Dark Throne servers is shutting down. There isn't a feasible path forward to maintain the game's current server setup and we've made the difficult decision to take Dark Throne offline. Game servers will officially shut down on December 1st, 2021.
People from all over the world came together to build what was once a thriving community with many long-lasting friendships as a result of meeting on Dark Throne. We truly appreciate everyone that has played and continued to play Dark Throne over the years, and we are proud of the community that battled, made friends, and enjoyed Dark Throne together."
Dark Throne was a turn-based massively multiplayer online fantasy game that you could play right through your web browser. For 17 incredible years, players from around the world signed up as Humans, Undead, Elves, or Goblins and fought other players while trying to take control of the throne.

According to the official announcement, Dark Throne shut down due to the financial impact of COVID-19 on the company responsible for server administration. After server issues in October 2021, they couldn't maintain the infrastructure needed to keep the game running.
The primary currency was Gold. Players could earn gold through income from workers, attacking other players, and market trading. Banking allowed protection of up to 80% of on-hand gold, with deposits returned after 24 hours at various time intervals.
Turns were for attacking only. Everyone got 2 turns every 30 minutes, and there was no way to get more turns. Turns could not be bought, sold, or used in any other way than attacking.
Dark Throne created lasting friendships and memories over its 17-year run. Players fondly remember the strategic depth, alliance politics, economic warfare, and the habit of checking back every few months or years just to see their kingdom again.
While Dark Throne's servers are forever silent, its spirit lives on!
